Valmai Wainhouse
Valmai Wainhouse - Labour Candidate for Fleet East ward, Hart District Council
Valmai Wainhouse has lived in the Fleet East Ward for over 30 years. She taught in Hampshire schools for 15 years before becoming an education advisor/inspector for Hampshire County Council.
Having worked with all the schools in the area over many years, she is passionate about supporting children and staff to work within a humane education system that puts well-being before testing and data. To support the physical and mental health of people of all ages in the community, Val is keen to promote a cleaner, well-planned environment and a creative approach to the regeneration of the town centre. Now retired, she still has the energy and commitment to make Fleet a great place to live.
I’ve lived in Fleet for 30 years and taught in Hampshire schools before becoming an education adviser, working with all the schools in the area. So I’m passionate about supporting children, parents and staff within a system that puts well-being before testing.
To support the physical and mental health of people of all ages, Hart needs fresh blood and energy. I want to give a voice to people who feel their views have been ignored for too long.
Nationally, Labour has listened and learned and can provide this opportunity at last. Locally we can make a real difference.
It’s time for change
Thousands of new homes in the district have put enormous pressure on roads, GP and hospital services and damaged the natural environment. New homes built WITHOUT regard for the environment: no solar panels, heat pumps or gardens large enough to attract wild birds.
Yet Fleet town centre has not benefitted from the increased population: so many shops have closed. Public transport is inadequate or non-existent.
Hart councillors have conducted talking shops for years, but failed to take meaningful action. You deserve much better, and Labour is ready to serve Hart as it serves so well in Manchester, London, and so many places.
What will Labour do for you?
We care about the needs of all the community and we represent and will fight for the whole community: all ages, all creeds, all genders, all incomes.
We care about the environment and the world our children will inherit. It’s worth fighting for!
We work actively for you on local and on nationally important issues: the NHS, the economy, Social Care, Education, Equality, International Relations.
Valmai’s pledges to you
If elected as councillor, I pledge to work on your behalf on these and other issues which concern you, as a resident of our town:
Working hard for you
I will be available to residents, and active year-round, working for, and representing you
GP and Dentist appointments
It is far too difficult to get an appointment. I will use every opportunity to meet with local surgeries and push for change.
Prevent poor roads and potholes
I will fight for better planning: if a service provider needs to dig up a road or pavement, they should restore it properly so it doesn’t break up later.
Putting the environment first
From better public transport, to protecting our green spaces, I will put our environment first.
Safer streets
People should feel secure at home and outside. I will work with residents and the police to help make our streets safer
